Class Placement

We provide general age guidelines for each class, but level placement is ultimately determined by technical skill, coordination and overall ability.

Students are evaluated every Fall and Spring, and an email with placement recommendations for the following year is sent prior to enrollment. Students should expect to spend at least two years in each level before advancing — and teachers are always available to offer feedback and support along the way.

Placement decisions draw on many years of teaching experience. We place each child where we believe they'll feel confident enough to build self-esteem: some thrive on the challenge of training alongside more proficient students, while others do best with peers at their own stage. Placement is highly individual, and the factors involved are complex.

We encourage every dancer to take all of the classes designated for their level — then add classes at the next level for further training. Students enrolled in all of their level's classes often progress significantly faster.
